Rep. Junie Joseph to Host Town Hall on Election Integrity, Public Campaign Financing, and Democracy

BOULDER, Colo. — State Representative Junie Joseph (House District 10) will host "Campaign Insights: Money and Election Integrity," a free community education town hall on Tuesday, August 4, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Canyon Theater, 1000 Canyon Blvd., Boulder, CO 80302.

The event will bring together Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin, Boulder City Council Member Rob Kaplan, Boulder County Clerk Molly Fitzpatrick, Jefferson County Clerk Amanda Gonzalez, and the ACLU of Colorado for a discussion on election administration, public campaign financing, and the institutions that help protect Colorado's democracy. Ariane Frosh of the ACLU of Colorado will open the evening with a brief presentation on election integrity, and Jill Grano will moderate the panel discussion.

"The midterm elections are fast approaching, and voters deserve clear, factual information about how our elections work," said Rep. Joseph. "Elections are the bedrock of our democracy. A democracy does not hold together on its own. It holds together because people understand how it works, trust the process, and take part in it. Colorado has built a system that other states look to, and that is worth defending and worth explaining."

The discussion will explore how state and local officials work together to administer elections, protect the integrity of the ballot, and ensure voters understand the safeguards that are in place.

"Every election is the result of months of preparation, training, and careful attention to detail," said Boulder County Clerk Molly Fitzpatrick. "Our team is committed to administering every election accurately, fairly, and consistently so every eligible voter can have confidence that their ballot is handled with care."

The panel will also examine how transparency, public education, and collaboration among election officials, local governments, and civic organizations help strengthen public confidence in elections. Experts in the field, including the ACLU of Colorado, play an important role in safeguarding voting rights and educating the public about election law and access to the ballot.

"Boulder's public campaign financing program helps ensure that anyone with the passion, ideas, and commitment to serve has a fair opportunity to run for office, regardless of their personal wealth or fundraising network," said Boulder City Council Member Rob Kaplan. "It strengthens our democracy by making our elections more accessible, more competitive, and more representative of our community."

Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions directly following the panel discussion.
